Dr. Kaplan and his team specialize in cosmetic injectable treatments, including neurotoxins. BOTOX®, which is the most widely known injectable neurotoxin, can help make lines and wrinkles less obvious by relaxing the overactive muscles of the face. Most commonly, BOTOX® injections are used to prevent wrinkles between the eyebrows, horizontal wrinkles on the forehead and crow’s feet in the outside corner of the eye. The treatment itself is performed in office and only takes a couple of minutes. Effects from a single treatment are seen within 10 days and you can enjoy smoother skin for 3-6 months.
What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a purified protein from the toxin that is produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria and is delivered directly into the muscle by tiny injections. Once injected, BOTOX® blocks the neurotransmitters that signal muscle activity, resulting in relaxing the muscle. When the muscle doesn’t contract repetitively, wrinkles soften and new wrinkles are prevented.
How Does BOTOX® Work?
When BOTOX® is injected directly into the muscle, it blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. When this neurotransmitter is blocked, overstimulation of muscle contractions are halted in the treated area. The relaxing of the overactive muscle allows for the softening of deep wrinkles and prevent permanent wrinkles from forming from repetitive muscle movement.
Where Can You Use BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is most commonly used on the face. Many areas can benefit from BOTOX® treatments, especially the glabella (between the brows), the crow’s feet (on the outer corner of the eyes) and the horizontal lines of the forehead. Some have multiple areas that need treatment, while others only treat one area.
BOTOX® can also be used to treat a number of medical conditions, such as severe underarm sweating, chronic migraines, overactive bladder and eyelid spasms.
What To Expect During Your BOTOX® Treatment
Dr. Kaplan and his team will spend your first appointment evaluating the condition of your skin and discussing goals and concerns. Once treatment areas have been identified, the BOTOX® treatment will take about 15 minutes. Immediately following follow treatment some experience minor redness that resolves within minutes. There is no significant downtime following the BOTOX® procedure. The effects of BOTOX® can be seen 7-10 days and last for 3-4 months.
How Long Does BOTOX® Last?
The full effects of BOTOX® may take 7-10 days to fully develop after the treatment. You can generally expect for your skin to remain smoother for 3-6 months. Scheduling regular appointments will help you enjoy the full benefits of this innovative cosmetic treatment.
