DAVID L. KAPLAN, MD
Dr. David L. Kaplan is a regionally and nationally recognized master clinician in dermatology. He lectures locally as well as nationally, publishes regularly in peer-reviewed medical publications, and has appeared numerous times on television and radio. He holds professorships at UMKC School of Medicine and University of Kansas School of Medicine, and has mentored students from numerous physician assistant and nurse practitioner graduate programs. Dr. Kaplan provides care for all ages, from newborn to the elderly. Having been trained and board certified in both dermatology and internal medicine, Dr. Kaplan is able to look beyond the surface of most dermatologic conditions to identify underlying cause. While trained as a general dermatologist, Dr. Kaplan enjoys the challenge of tackling complex medical dermatology, solving difficult to diagnose or difficult to manage skin conditions (see below for examples). Dr. Kaplan is a recognized expert in dermatology; he writes a monthly feature in a national medical publication with 250,000 subscribing primary care physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications, provided over 50 radio and television interviews and appearances, including National Public Radio twice and has been quoted in newspapers across the country.
He completed his undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis. He then obtained a Masters Degree in Microbiology from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. From there, Dr. Kaplan received his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. He went on to complete a full internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. He returned to North Carolina upon receiving a Dermatology Foundation research fellowship in dermatopharmacology at Duke University Medical Center Division of Dermatology. Dr. Kaplan then completed his dermatology residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Dr. Kaplan is board certified in both dermatology and internal medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.
